PERFORMING

Performing is last stage of team development.Teams those can survive after facing three phases reach to performing. As team reaches this point with hard work and motivation to their target.


FEATURES OF PERFORMING AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR

  • Members become mature and can handle the situation.
  • Works like a TEAM not as a MEMBER.
  • Team members are filled with enthusiasm.
  • Managing the project.
  • Start solving problems.
  • Start caring other members.
  • Develop loyalty.
  • Build trust.
  • Only one target.
  • Member makes daily routine about task.
  • Productivity and harmony
  • Sharing views of each other.
  • More expectations.
  • Strong relationship between group members.
  • Members are willing to support each other.
  • Phase is like a peak.
  • Customer service is good.
  • Group may have some issues but can be solve through activities.

ROLE OF LEADER

  • Leader participate in group activity.
  • Leader's role is delegated.
  • Focus on developing team members.
  • Support Team members.
  • Teach a word 'we can do'.
Now members are committed to work cooperatively and start achieving their goals. Group is highly productive and can reach to their target.

NORMING : PHASE OF TEAM DEVELOPMENT

NORMING

Now team come to its comfort zone and start focusing on their goals. Members are now building trust and solving issues. Team is preparing to get progress in goal.Norming is time to come action from directions.
  

FEATURES OF NORMING AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR

  • Team start solving issues.
  • Cohesion will increased.
  • Single minded purpose is formed.
  • Team members now trying to change their ideas on facts presented by other team members.
  • Developing trust.
  • Starts communicating with each other.
  • Appreciating others plans.
  • Building strength
  • Sharing personal and task related information.
  • Improving personal relation create good understanding.
  • Cooperating with each other. 
  • Positive feedback

ROLE OF LEADER

  • Role of leader is unnecessary, as team is directed toward the goal.
  • Support team members.
  • Start sharing important data with team members.
  • Moving team members in one direction.
Team is moving toward its target and making right decision.

STORMING : PHASE OF TEAM DEVELOPMENT

STORMING

Moving to second phase, members start knowing each other, their responsibilities and roles, start achieving  team objectives,while members of a team felt like less motivated to their goals. As they start to push against  boundaries established in  forming stage, less interaction producing conflicts unfortunately lead to storming.

   

FEATURES OF STORMING  AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR

  • Members feel less polite as in forming.
  • Members starts arguing with each other.
  • Create conflicts related to any task or with their views.
  • People getting frustrated from their team member, or from team leader.
  • Seeing each others as competitors.
  • More disputes can make strained relations.
  • Making subgroups.
  • Disagreements on plans.
  • Start blaming each other.
  • Wrong communication style.
  • It will effect in future goals of an organisation.

ROLE OF TEAM LEADER 

  • Handle conflicts
  • Members should concentrate on their goals.
  • Organize their work.
  • Focus on teams competition not on individuals.
  • Removing the word 'I' with 'WE'
  • Developing task related skills as well as conflict management skills.
  • Improving Communication style.
  • Offer suggestions to solve problem with  each other.
  • Redefine the goal 
  • Clear all issues within team members
  • Take impartial decision.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Team development normally go through the four phases as they develop. Psychologist B.A Tuckman identified the four phases :

  •   Forming
  •  Storming
  • Norming 
  •  Performing


     

    FORMING

In simple words forming is all about finding about team members and task.




Forming is the first stage to know about all the team members. Judging a person on first meeting on job is not easy way as everyone will behave politely, we have only expectations but no result . (human resources, n.d.)


FEATURES OF FORMING AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR

  • Orientation plays crucial role.
  •   Members have general questions in their mind.
  • o   Who are we?
  • o   What we are going to do?
  • o   What is our goal?
  •   First meeting is with positive vibes, no issues.
  •  Suspense about the job.
  •   People trying to talk with each other feel awkward.
  •   Develop trust in each other.
  •   They can judge similarities and differences between each other.
  •   They  make better understanding, it will help in less disputes and issues in future.
  •  Group consists of many type of members as some makes other feel comfortable, few of them  trying to focus on themselves while many are confused and shy for expressing their view  points.
  •   Members are trying to checking other personalities and talents.
  •        Members have many expectations from each other in future.

ROLE OF LEADER

  •  Group member look for directions from their team leader.
  •        Build trust of their members as they can blindly follow him.
  •   Setting rules for group behavior.
  •   Define the task.
  •  Discussions about the task.
  •  People start expressing their views.
  •   Parts are divided among the team member.
  •   Discussions about collecting information.

People often say that teams are important for success, individual and organisational development, and this have become the basic layer for many communities and organisations. A team can face almost every upcoming challenge. There are many ‘team building’ solutions that exist but without a solid co-ordination and understanding of the four fundamentals the process can be a bit difficult.



THE STRATEGIES FOR TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  •  A team should explore every critical factor of success for being an engaged, high- performing and sustainable team.
  • Study the essentials and rhythms of a team development process
  • Understand the relationship between engagement, autonomy and organisational responsibility.

Completer : who bring earnestness in team and searches about errors
Implementer : who  transfers theoretical concepts into practical.
Evaluate : who judge the plans.
Plant : create new innovative ideas.
Resource investigator : who bring out new opportunities.
Shaper : who gives intelligibility to team work.
Specialist : who distribute specific skills and knowledge (business directory, n.d.)

QUALITIES OF LEADER:

A leader should take out best in the team, he should have following skills to achieve organisational goals and to work with team members :
L: loyal to his team.
E: works efficiently and effectively.
A:get adapt the environment.
D: duties should be done legitimately.
E: eligible for every team work.
R: person is responsible for every gain and loss.
S: sincerely follow all obligations.
H: honest with team members.
I: impartial with every team member.
P: he should be polite and punctual.

 QUALITIES OF TEAM MEMBER

  • member should influence everyone for doing reliable and relevant work.
  • should have good communication skills.
  • willing to share all the information ,knowledge and experience.
  • always ready to help other team members in every condition.
  • always trying to solve the problem.
  • stay with his given commitment.
  • give respect to others and can get respect from others.
